We are thrilled to announce the
newest addition to the Generis Team
Kristen Capel is the lead pastor at Nokomis Heights Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, MN. She is also a strategist, visionary, encourager, and coach who loves people and loves God’s Church. Her passion is to help congregations discover where the Holy Spirit is leading and find innovative ways to reach their God-sized vision.
An ordained pastor with 20 years of service in four different ELCA congregations, Kristen has followed God’s lead to create transformation in every congregation she has served.
From 2011-2018, Kristen served as lead pastor of Easter Lutheran Church; a vibrant, two-campus congregation in a suburb of St. Paul, MN. During her tenure as lead pastor, Easter went from an internally-focused church to a church that was alive with community meals, after-school tutoring, addiction support groups, and ministry with at-risk youth. Of course all of that transformation demands resources, and one of Kristen’s favorite parts of Ministry is watching God move mountains through the generosity of faithful people.
Kristen has been a keynote speaker at synod assemblies, youth events, and women’s retreats. In her spare time, she volunteers at her local food shelf, works with grassroots organizations as an anti-racism advocate, and has served on several community boards.
"If you know me, then you know that I love congregational ministry. In addition to my calling to serve as Pastor, I have known for many years that God is calling me to walk alongside church leaders and share my passion for coaching and mentoring in the church generosity space. Having served ELCA churches of all sizes, I know firsthand how challenging it is to lead in normal times, let alone in these times. And yet, we trust the leading of the Holy Spirit to reveal new ways to be the church. "
